Since 2005, the success of our musicals, concerts, revues, and plays, presented by hundreds of area volunteers, is proof that the performing arts are alive and thriving in west central Illinois. We perform not for fame or money, but out of passion – a passion to create quality live entertainment and to raise funds for Spoon River College scholarships. Our “performance hall door” is open to anyone who shares this passion. CELEBRATING OUR 20TH ANNIVERSARY IN 2025!
DUST BOWL CONCERT CELEBRATING CANTON, ILLINOIS’ BICENTENNIAL A SUCCESS!
Music from the Time of the Dust Bowl entertained, educated, and illuminated the hopes, the dreams, and the trials of Depression-era America from 1929-1940 during two performances on Sunday, June 22 at First Christian Church in Canton. Through a carefully selected offering of choral numbers, solos, and duets; numbers performed by Dust Bowl traveling musician and special guest Nathan Taylor; Clara Irene (Lindsey Larson) sharing her Canton diary, and authentic photographs displayed on screen, the SRC Community Chorus brought history to life to capacity crowds. Singers, technicians, and ushers selected their own costumes and created unique personalities to further highlight the time period.
20TH ANNIVERSARY COMMEMORATION CONTINUES WITH HANDEL’S MESSIAH & WINTER OLIO IN DECEMBER
Closing out the year-long 20th anniversary celebration, the SRC Community Chorus presents Handel’s Messiah & Winter Olio, directed by John L. Davis, on Saturday, December 6 and Sunday, December 7. The Chorus formed in 2005 with its first presentation of the classic work and presented it once again in December 2012. Anyone who sang in the first two concerts is encouraged to participate along with current members and first time participants. No auditions are required. Rehearsals will begin mid-September. Full chorus rehearsals are generally scheduled for Thursday evenings with solo rehearsals on Sunday afternoons. More information will be available the first part of September via media release, Facebook and on this webpage or by emailing Carol Davis, Artistic Director.
