The Spoon River College men’s basketball team is excited to kick off its inaugural season under the leadership of local area coach Chance Jones. The Snappers are scheduled to open their season on January 22nd at home against Quincy College. The Snappers men’s team played three scrimmage games this fall and have two upcoming scrimmages against South Suburban and Moberly, two top notch programs.

The Snappers have had a solid start to this upcoming season. The men competed very well in their five exhibition games this fall against teams that are typically nationally ranked every year.  “The guys have worked very hard through challenging situations with continuously changing safety protocols to remain in shape and improve their game to be as ready as possible for the season,” said Jones.

The Snappers have quite a few freshman but will be looking for some sophomore leadership from those on the team.  Micale Mee, TC Wright, Luka Gelb, and DaKei Hines have all played a year of basketball at this level and fans should expect to see them be leaders on the court.

“I believe we also have a strong and talented group of freshman, which has allowed us to have really competitive practices.  We have a lot to learn, but I think this team has the potential to be very competitive in our already very competitive league.  We are expecting them to pick things up fast, because our non-conference schedule is going to be tough as well.  This is a good group of young men that have been really fun to be around and they work extremely hard.  We are excited to get the season going,” Jones said.
