Completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is an important step in planning for college and is a high school graduation requirement in Illinois. The 2027 FAFSA opens October 1. Students and families don’t have to navigate the process alone.
Spoon River College will offer a series of FAFSA Completion Nights at area high schools throughout the fall and early spring. The free events will provide students and families with assistance as they work through and complete the FAFSA.
SRC staff will be available to answer questions and help participants through the application process. Students do not have to plan to attend Spoon River College to participate.
“Completing the FAFSA can feel overwhelming, particularly for families going through the process for the first time,” said Kylee Bump, Director of Financial Aid at Spoon River College “These events give students and families an opportunity to sit down with someone who understands the process, ask questions and get the help they need to complete their FAFSA.”

What should parent’s Bring?
- To complete the FAFSA, parents should bring:
- Drivers’ License
- Social Security numbers (parents and student)
- 2025 Taxes
- Laptop or phone with internet access.
The FAFSA is used to determine eligibility for federal financial aid, including grants, work-study opportunities and student loans, as well as some state and institutional aid. Completing the FAFSA does not obligate a student to accept financial aid or attend a particular college.
