Spoon River College nursing students were recently honored in an informal pinning ceremony to mark their achievements in completing the Practical Nursing Certificate program. In addition to now being eligible to take the NCLEX-PN test, they are also on track to continue in the program to earn the Associate Degree in Nursing.

The SRC Nursing program offers the option of completing a practical nursing certificate at the end of the first year, at which time the individual is eligible to take the Practical Nursing licensing examination. Students may continue to the second year of the program, and after completion, are then eligible to receive an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) and to write the NCLEX-RN examination for licensure. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), and is fully approved by Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.

Instructors in the program are Becky Sherwood (director of the program), Penny Cozart, Judith Nolan, Sarah Strode, and Tonja Huff. The nursing program is available on both the Canton and Macomb campuses.
