The demand for qualified HVAC/R technicians is steadily increasing. The Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) program at Spoon River College, allows students to earn a certificate that will prepare them for a career in the HVAC/R industry. Designed to meet current industry needs, our HVAC program focuses on hands-on learning and practical application. Students train on industry-standard equipment while developing skills in system installation, electrical components, refrigeration, diagnostics, and preventative maintenance. The program emphasizes practical skills, problem-solving, and workforce readiness to support students pursuing immediate employment or continued technical training in the HVAC field.

HVAC/R technicians install, maintain, and repair heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems in residential and commercial settings. Their work includes testing electrical components, troubleshooting system issues, performing routine maintenance, and following safety and industry standards.
