NOTE: Students who will be enrolling at Spoon River College for the 2010-11 Academic Year
may submit scholarship applications between January 15 and March 15, 2010.


The SRC Foundation and Spoon River College offer a wide variety of scholarships each year. Scholarships may be for academic excellence or for talent or skill. Some scholarships are named after individuals who wish to continue making a difference in the lives of others. Some scholarships are for a particular profession or degree.

Students must be formally admitted to SRC (http://www.src.edu/getting-started-at-src) to apply for our scholarships. Applying for scholarships at Spoon River College requires three steps – (1) completing the formal application; (2) completing the FAFSA (http://www.fafsa.ed.gov) and (3) submitting all transcripts.
Once you complete the three step process properly, you will become eligible for all relevant scholarships. You only need to complete the application process once each year! Everything you need to know and do is on our comprehensive application. The deadline for 2010-11 scholarships is Monday, March 15, 2010!

SRC Academic and Performing Scholarships

Spoon River College Academic Performing Grants 2010-2011

SRC offers 11 academic performing grants each year for full-time first year students based on academic achievement. These awards cover tuition and fees for 36 semester hours in consecutive semesters during the academic year. The student may choose three semesters in a summer, fall, spring OR a fall, spring, summer order. These grants are renewable if a student maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.3 and full-time status throughout the academic year.

SRC also offers two academic performing grants for second year students maintaining a 3.3 cumulative GPA and full-time status (both in the first year at SRC and in the second year).Several academic performing grants are available to part-time students. These awards are for one semester and students must reapply each semester. Students must have a 3.0 cumulative grade point average and be enrolled part-time (less than 12 hours) at SRC.

Spoon River College Performing Skill Grants 2010-2011

Performing skill grants are awarded each year to students showing special ability or talent in the areas of Art, Drama, Athletics and Agriculture. Students receiving these grants may use the awarded funds for tuition or books. Activity sponsors in each area have specific requirements and criteria that must be met.

Students interested in performing skill grants must complete all the necessary eligibility requirements for SRC/SRC Foundation Scholarships as outlined on the application form AND contact the individual sponsor regarding additional eligibility requirements.

Additional performance or special scholarships based on skill, leadership, or talent in Nursing, Commercial Driver Training, All-USA Academic Team, Diesel, and the SRC Student Member of the Board of Trustees are awarded annually. Information is updated frequently on this website.

Foundation Scholarships

The Spoon River College Foundation exists to secure resources for SRC students and college needs. New scholarships are established each year. Historical information and additional eligibility requirements are outlined in each scholarship description.

BUT the Foundation invites you to APPLY TODAY using SRC’s three step process. Don’t wait!

Dual Credit Scholarships
The SRC Foundation offers dual credit scholarships to assist eligible area high school students who want to begin earning college credit while still in high school. Scholarship awards are in the amount of $100 per student per semester and are applied to a student’s account at SRC. Preference will be given to those families with less than $65,000 gross annual income and a household totaling four or more people, but all may apply for consideration. Application forms are available below. Print off the forms, complete, and mail prior to the deadline to the SRC Foundation at the address listed on the form.

NAMED ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIPS FOR 2010-2011

The scholarships listed below are those maintained and offered by the SRC Foundation. The application process (FAFSA completed and filed, and transcript and application forwarded to SRC) is the same for ALL scholarships listed below. Only one application is required. Students will be matched to eligibility.

The amount to be awarded is listed next to the scholarship name. In many instances, there will be multiple awards. The Foundation will award approximately 75 scholarships in 2010-11.

The Danny Ball Scholarship Fund $330
Established by the family of Danny Ball, a 1976 graduate of Canton High School, to enable students to realize their dreams of a higher education at Spoon River College.

The L.D. and Virginia L. Barnard Scholarship - (New Endowment for 2010-2011)
The late “Barney” and Virginia Barnard are a well-known farming family in Fulton County. They have spent their lives supporting their community and educational institutions. Students who will be pursuing a career in agriculture will be given preference for this award.

The Mildred and Emory Brott Memorial Scholarship $500  
Established in the names of education advocates Mildren and Emory Brotts to provide financial assistance to students attending SRC.

Canton Rotary Club/Ketric & Alice Klingman Memorial Scholarship $450
Established in memory of Mr. Ketric Klingman, a music teacher in the Canton School District and at Spoon River College and his wife, Alice, a pianist.

The Dorothy Cox Memorial Scholarship $600
Established by former Farmington, Illinois Mayor Dorothy Cox to provide financial assistance for any future SRC student living within the district.

The Dean and Mildred Crawford Scholarship (New Endowment for 2010-2011)
Former Canton business owners Dean and Mildred Crawford established this scholarship for full or part-time students attending the Canton campus. Preference given to students enrolled in vocational programs.
Maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher

The Harold Dare Memorial Scholarship $500
Established in memory of Harold Dare, a lifelong farmer, to assist Diesel Technology students.
The Phi Mu Tau Scholarship $500
The Edward R. Kaiser Scholarship $500
Established for Mr. Kaiser, a former SRC Diesel Technology instructor, by his family to assist diesel students at the college.
Restricted to Diesel students
Selected by the SRC Diesel Advisory Committee annually

The Donald E. & Helen M. English Memorial Scholarship $450
Established by their children to honor the love that Mr. and Mrs. English had for SRC and its community programs.
Any district resident (renewable for 2nd year)

SRC Foundation Scholarships (General Endowed) $450
Includes the Canton Elks/Lila Wilcoxen Memorial Scholarship; the Tom Knowles Memorial Endowment Scholarship; the Neil K. Rand Memorial Scholarship; Susanna Wood Trust; the Jack Yancick-Cilco Endowment Scholarship; the Dr. J. K. Welch Scholarship; the Carl N., Stella, and Francis Hill Memorial Scholarship; the Clara F. Donaldson Trust Scholarship.

Carl F. Jackson Endowment Scholarship
$450
Established in 1996 by Mr. Jackson, a retired SRC faculty accounting instructor of 24 years, to help students continue their full time SRC educations.

Berniece Sprecher Kruschinsky $450
Established by Mrs. Kruschinsky to provide financial assistance through an annual scholarship.
Preference given to person with disability

Carl Kruschinsky Scholarship $450
Established by his wife, Bernice, to assist students who demonstrate financial need.

Francis G. and Dorothea B. McPheeters Scholarship $550
Established by their son Lynn McPheeters, who was the first graduate of Spoon River College and a longtime supporter of the SRC Foundation.

Medical Assistant Scholarship $500
This is a one-time scholarship for two students enrolled in the Medical Assisting or Health Information Management programs at SRC. The scholarship funds were provided by Dr. David Steutermann of the Graham Medical Group, Canton, IL.

MidAmerica National Bank Scholarship $500
Established by one of Fulton County’s oldest banks, a long time SRC partner and supporter in the community, to provide several SRC students with scholarships each year.

Gustav A. & Elizabeth P. Miller Scholarship $350
Established by longtime residents and business owners Gustav and Betty Miller. This is one of the SRC Foundation’s largest personal endowments.

Molly Kay O’Brien Scholarship
Established by Brad and Michelle O’Brien in memory of their infant daughter. The scholarship was created as an incentive for eighth grade students to stay in school and attend SRC.
Awarded every 4 years by Mr. and Mrs. O'Brien

Avis A. Oliver Memorial Scholarship (New Endowment) $450
Established in 2009 by her two daughters as a tribute to their mother and her love of learning.
Preference to art or education major

Selection made by Advisory Committee

J. Marshall Quick and Helen Quick Scholarship $1000
Established in recognition of J. Marshall Quick, a livelong farmer in Fulton County and the founder the Fulton County Pork Producers. His wife, Helen, taught at Cuba High School for many years.

Involved in curricular/extra-curricular activities

The Sherman Reed Memorial Scholarship $450
Established by Mr. Sherman in 2004 in his last will and testament. The foundation awarded the first Sherman Reed scholarship in 2007.

Mr. & Mrs. Glen Rogers Endowment Scholarship $675
Mr. & Mrs. Rogers established a very generous scholarship for SRC students at the suggestion of Mrs. Rogers’ sister, who once attended SRC.

Robert Smolich Memorial Scholarship $450
Established by Robert “Bob” Smolich, a retired vice president of Spoon River College and community icon, by his last will and testament.

The B.H. and Jim A. Taylor Scholarship Trust $500
This Trust is housed at Wells Fargo Bank in Canton and provides
annual scholarship awards based on a percentage of the market value.
This year, 4 - $500 scholarships will be awarded.
Must be a Canton High School graduate.

The Louise Wood Scholarship $450
Established by Havana resident Louise Wood to assist students who demonstrate financial need.
Preference to Ipava or Havana graduates
Any SRC district resident
High School GPA of 2.5 or higher

The Sherri Wood Scholarship (New Endowment for 2010-2011)
Established by former SRC Vice President Dr. Bev Bowen in memory of her daughter-in-law.
Preference given to those entering the field of nursing.

Note: Named endowed scholarships are created upon investment of $10,000 or more. The scholarships become self-perpetuating through interest creation and continue to provide financial assistance for future generations. Foundation - Administered Scholarships

Many organizations and businesses ask the Foundation to administer the scholarships they offer to SRC students each year. Students interested in these scholarships should use the standard application form.

One general scholarship $1,000
Two scholarships to students selected as Tech Student of the Month $500 each

Canton Works Club Scholarship $500 (2)
Preference to those who have proof of family relationship to former International Harvester employee
Renewable if SRC GPA is 2.5 or higher

Early Childhood Education Scholarship (Awarded through 2011-12)
Awarded to 2nd year full-time SRC education major
Preference given to declared Early Childhood Education
GPA of 2.75 or higher
$500 per semester $1000

Fellheimer Trust (Awarded in the Fall, Spring and Summer)
Student must attend SRC Macomb Campus and live in SRC District 12 months of the year.
Preference will be given to non-traditional students who must be 25 years of age or older or have a dependent child. New applications required each semester.
GPA of 2.5 or higher
May receive a maximum of 4 awards while enrolled at SRC
Awards are made for Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters
