Programs for age 50 and over
If you are over the age of 50 then we hope you will be interested in the programs we have to offer. Whether it's learning a new skill, finding ways to get connected in your community, or attending something just for fun, we hope you take part in one of our Plus 50 & Retirees Programs.
In 2005, with the help of a grant from the Retirement Research Foundation in Chicago, Spoon River College established the Retirees Leading Initiative. Since its creation, the program has offered many Retirees Leadership Academies in Canton and Havana with Lifelong Learning Conferenes being held in Canton, Macomb, Havana, and Rushville. The Retirees Leading Initiative objectives include:
- increasing the number of trained and knowledgeable retiree leaders for the community;
- creating a volunteer and/or employment base for economic and community development;
- initiating institutes of learning in retirement presented to and by retirees; and
- providing a network of experienced individuals who will provide guidance to the community’s businesses, service organizations, and educational institutions.
The Lifelong Learning Conferences take place at several locations each year. More than 200 retirees are served each year through these conferences created for retirees. This program is for those ages 50 and older! This event is an exciting time for retirees to come together, to share with friends, and to learn something new. The day’s events feature educational sessions, resource fair, luncheon, prizes and more!
