Canton

ELDT Hazmat Training-Canton

This 3-hour program covers all the topics required for federal ELDT certification for commercial drivers. It provides information on loading and transporting hazardous materials as well as emergency procedures and hazmat paperwork requirements. The program also includes the required federal assessment test. This training is a prerequisite for receiving a hazardous material endorsement on a CDL. Instructor is Bob Walter. Fee is $95.

70 from the 70’s-Canton

Each session above features different songs so sign up for both! The progression of music continues with the best of the 1970’s!  Whether or not you attended any of our 2024  series of music from the 1960’s, the 70’s is the next step.  From the Eagles to ABBA, to Chicago and Paul McCartney, to Led Zeppelin, Sister Sledge, and Donna Summer…the list goes on and on.  YOU will be a big part of it!  Participants will choose from a list of 70 songs from the 1970’s.  Then we’ll watch vintage videos of the decade’s top hits while learning trivia about each artist and song.  Singing along, dancing, and stories are welcome! Every stadium is different. Learn about their unusual features in this unique class with stories and pictures. You won’t hear how the Mets beat the Phillies 3-2. Instead, you’ll learn about the stadium with a window in the men’s room so you can watch the game while you answer nature’s call. Which park is actually eight separate buildings so it can withstand an earthquake? In which stadiums could you pet manta rays, go for a swim, or eat delicious walleye? Kevin Stephenson has been to a game in all 30 stadiums and will guide us on this wonderful tour. Snacks and drinks included! Fee is $25.

Meal in a Mug-Canton
Thursday, April 24, 5:30-7pm, SRC Canton Campus
Do you live alone, or are you newly cooking for only 1 or 2 people?  Maybe you’re a student who needs a substantial snack after school?  Learn how to make easy meals in a mug!  In this class, you’ll learn how to make a breakfast, lunch/dinner, side dish, and dessert.  Enjoy these dishes in class and take home a recipe book of more creations to make at home. Beginning Woodworking-Havana
Sundays, February 23-April 13, 4:30-6pm, SRC Havana High School Shop
This course provides studies in basic woodworking with emphasis on general woodworking skills such as project planning, finishing, safety, and related tool safety and management. Instruction will include safety principles and practices, recognition of standard lumber sizes, cost estimating of wood projects and blueprint reading. Students will learn to use a variety of general woodworking tools, skills and techniques. Students will construct at a minimum one project, requiring a minimum to moderate level of woodworking skill, with the option of multiple projects depending on class numbers and skill level. No advanced woodworking knowledge is necessary for this course. Instructor is Phil Foster. Fee is $75.

1960’s Music! Your Request…Your Favorites!-Havana
Thursday, March 20, 5:30-7:30pm, SRC Havana Center
The 1960’s – it was a special time in the music world! From The Association to the Guess Who… Gary Puckett & The Union Gap to Steppenwolf…The Fifth Dimension to The Mamas & The Papas… and much more. This unique presentation allows YOU to be a big part of it! Just like with Top-40 radio in the 60’s, the request line will be open. Attendees will choose songs from a list of 161 favorites from the era. Then, watch vintage videos of those top stars performing their biggest hits. Singing, dancing, and stories welcome! Safe@Home-Havana
Friday, March 21, 1-2:30pm, SRC Havana Center
Safe@Home is designed to prepare students for their first step toward independence so they can be safe when they are home alone. They’ll learn how to practice safe habits, prevent unsafe situations, and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies. In this hands-on class, participants will learn how to cook single-serving meals in the microwave, create a fun, easy dessert, and learn some basics of kitchen safety. CPR Training-Havana
Wednesday, April 23, 5:30-7:30pm, SRC Havana Center
Participants in this class will learn the most recent guidelines for performing adult CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and the proper way to perform it from Mason County EMS staff. The course will also include training on using an AED. At the conclusion of the course, participants will be tested on the training they received and they will earn a CPR card upon successful completion. Note: Each participant will receive a single use CPR mask. CPR card included in the Fee. Instructed by Mason County EMS Staff. Fee is $30.

 

Macomb

Cannabis Horticulture-Macomb
Students can join up to 2 weeks after the start date.
This class will cover the basic botany of the cannabis plant, soil science, fertigation, integrated pest management and cannabinoid testing. Students will receive training online but will also receive hands on experience through lab exercises. Class will take place at local cannabis facilities and in the classroom. Must be able to provide own transportation.
Lecture/Lab: Wednesdays, January 22-April 23, 2025 from 2:30-6:30pm. (3/10-3/14: Spring Break NO CLASS)
Fieldtrips: 3/5: Stoney Branch from 3-5pm, 4/9: Stoney Branch from 3-5pm, 5/2: Nature’s Grace & Wellness from 1-3pm.
Price: $719 $360 (Thanks to funding provided by Nature’s Grace & Wellness, we are able to offer the program at a discounted cost. A book is also included at no charge.)

The Spoon River College Outreach Cannabis Education Certificate consists of two classes. Cannabis Horticulture (Spring) and Cannabis Processing (Fall). Cannabis education workshops are sponsored by Nature’s Grace and Wellness, LLC. This sponsorship allows the college to offer classes at a reduced cost to participants.

Food Service Sanitation Manger Certification-Macomb

All establishments which serve food must have one certified person on the premises at all times. In order to obtain a new FSSMC Certificate, you must complete an eight-hour ServSafe® IDPH approved course and pass an exam accredited under the standards developed and adopted by the Conference for Food Protection with a score of 75% or better.  This course, instructed by I Food Manager (IFM), covers up-to-date information on safe food handling, preparation, food storage, personal hygiene, and the prevention of food borne illnesses. Completion of this course does not guarantee you will pass the exam. Students are advised to utilize any study materials provided before attending class. Instructor is Wanda Adkins. Fee is $209.

Computer Basics-Macomb

This class will teach computer basics such as using the mouse and starting up/shutting down. Learn how your computer is organized, how to create files and folders, and gain tips that will make you less hesitant about using technology. Instructor is Andrea Barbknecht. This class is for those using Windows-based operating systems not Apple. This class is discounted thanks to funding from the ICCB Noncredit Workforce Training Grant. Seemingly overnight in 1942, a major U.S Army Unit Training Center and prisoner-of-war camp arose in a quiet central Illinois farming community to become Camp Ellis. Rick Klinedinst will discuss the many impacts this short-lived city had on the local communities and the war, the variety of professional trainings that occurred, the POWs housed within its walls, and ultimately how it disappeared just as suddenly as it appeared.
