70 from the 70’s-Canton
Each session above features different songs so sign up for both! The progression of music continues with the best of the 1970’s! Whether or not you attended any of our 2024 series of music from the 1960’s, the 70’s is the next step. From the Eagles to ABBA, to Chicago and Paul McCartney, to Led Zeppelin, Sister Sledge, and Donna Summer…the list goes on and on. YOU will be a big part of it! Participants will choose from a list of 70 songs from the 1970’s. Then we’ll watch vintage videos of the decade’s top hits while learning trivia about each artist and song. Singing along, dancing, and stories are welcome! Each session above features different songs so sign up for both! Instructor is Kevin Stephenson. Fee is $25.
Small Business Workshop-Canton

Most small business owners wear many hats: legal advisors, salespeople, customer service reps, HR Directors, marketing executives, and more! This workshop is designed to bring the experts to you—to give you the information you need to leverage today’s changing market and to add to your toolkit for long-term success. Carla Bobell (Canton Area Chamber of Commerce) and Michelle Spiva (Spoon River Partnership for Economic Development) will start us off with some local resources for small businesses. You’ll learn the latest in employment law (Chris Jump, Davis & Campbell), best HR practices (Diana Pavley-Rock, Wildlife Prairie Park), and how to get the most bang for your marketing buck (Mark Hemmer, ONEFIRE, Inc.). Networking and questions for the experts at the end of the sessions. Light breakfast is included in the registration fee. Certified Medical Assistant Bootcamp–Canton
Mondays, March 24-May 12, 5:15-7:15pm, SIU School of Medicine-Canton
This course is for those currently working in healthcare as Medical Assistants, but they are un-certified. The purpose of this course is to enhance and strengthen the person’s medical knowledge and clinical skills, in order for the person to become certified. This 8-week course will prepare him/her for the National Healthcareer Association’s Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) Certification Exam. Upon completion of this course, all participants will sit for the national CCMA Exam on the SRC Canton Campus during the last week of May. Instructor is Melissa Miller. Fee: The cost of this program would typically be $350. Thanks to funding from the “Illinois Pipeline for the Advancement of the Healthcare (PATH) Workforce Program” SRC is able to cover $325 of this fee. That means YOU pay only $25! Instead, you’ll learn about the stadium with a window in the men’s room so you can watch the game while you answer nature’s call. Which park is actually eight separate buildings so it can withstand an earthquake? In which stadiums could you pet manta rays, go for a swim, or eat delicious walleye? Kevin Stephenson has been to a game in all 30 stadiums and will guide us on this wonderful tour. Snacks and drinks included! Fee is $25.

ELDT Hazmat Training-Canton
Friday, April 25, 8-11am, SRC Canton Commercial Driver Training Facility
This 3-hour program covers all the topics required for federal ELDT certification for commercial drivers. It provides information on loading and transporting hazardous materials as well as emergency procedures and hazmat paperwork requirements. The program also includes the required federal assessment test. This training is a prerequisite for receiving a hazardous material endorsement on a CDL. Instructor is Bob Walter. Fee is $95.

Safe@Home is designed to prepare students for their first step toward independence so they can be safe when they are home alone. They’ll learn how to practice safe habits, prevent unsafe situations, and what to do when faced with dangers such as power failures or weather emergencies. CPR Training-Havana
Wednesday, April 23, 5:30-7:30pm, SRC Havana Center
Participants in this class will learn the most recent guidelines for performing adult CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and the proper way to perform it from Mason County EMS staff. The course will also include training on using an AED. At the conclusion of the course, participants will be tested on the training they received and they will earn a CPR card upon successful completion. Note: Each participant will receive a single use CPR mask. CPR card included in the Fee. Instructed by Mason County EMS Staff. Fee is $30.
Boating Safety Course-Havana
Friday, April 25th from 5-8pm & Saturday, April 26th from 8am-1pm, SRC Havana Center
The Illinois Boating Safety Course is a free, 8-hour, in-person instruction and demonstration course. During the course students can expect to participate in the following: boating safety; equipment and requirements; navigation; motorboat; registration and titling; emergency measures; and Illinois boating laws and regulations. The course is primarily designed to train young people aged twelve (12) and older. Persons twelve (12) and over, passing the course by completing the minimum eight (8) hours of instruction, passing the written exam, and displaying the necessary skills to boat independently will receive an Illinois Boating Safety Certificate. This class will cover how to recognize an emergency, calling 911, chest compressions, using an AED, basic first aid, and any other situations that the students or parents may ask about. For Ages 8 to 16 years old. Instructor is Jason Arthur. Fee is $20.
Food Service Sanitation Manger Certification-Macomb
All establishments which serve food must have one certified person on the premises at all times. In order to obtain a new FSSMC Certificate, you must complete an eight-hour ServSafe® IDPH approved course and pass an exam accredited under the standards developed and adopted by the Conference for Food Protection with a score of 75% or better. This course, instructed by I Food Manager (IFM), covers up-to-date information on safe food handling, preparation, food storage, personal hygiene, and the prevention of food borne illnesses. Completion of this course does not guarantee you will pass the exam. Students are advised to utilize any study materials provided before attending class. Instructor is Wanda Adkins. Fee is $209.

For centuries, we’ve known that the health of the brain and the body are connected. Join us to learn about research in the areas of diet and nutrition, exercise, cognitive activity and social engagement, and use hands-on tools to help you incorporate these recommendations into a plan for healthy aging. Beginning Woodworking-Rushville
Wednesdays, March 19-May 21, 6-9:15pm, Rushville Industry High School Shop
Students in this class will learn about basic woodworking. Topics to be covered include; tools and equipment, planning and design, selecting materials, shop safety, material assembly and final surface preparation. Tools that will be used and demonstrated in class include; Radial Arm Saw, Table Saw, Jointer, Planer, Lathe, Drill Press, Band Saw, Various Sanders, Router, Shaper and Portable Power Tools. Students will be given hands-on training and discuss woodworking planning and techniques, as well as, complete their own woodworking project utilizing the skills and techniques learned in class. There is a material fee that is payable to instructor at class and can range from $50-$100 depending on project. This class is designed for ages 16 and older. Instructor is Andrew Stevenson. If you want to learn how to use Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook or PowerPoint at your own pace, these are the classes for you! SRC Instructor-led lessons, videos, quizzes, discussion boards and assignments will help you learn the basics of these programs and how to apply them in everyday life. In just a few hours, you can learn enough secrets of the trade to give you years of musical enjoyment. Learn to play piano the way professionals do-using chords. Since this class is being held online with ZOOM you will be able to sit at your piano or keyboard at home and take this course with no pressure at all. And since this course includes an online book and online follow up video lessons, you will be able to continue your practice and study on your own. An optional periodic online question and answer session is also included. A recording of the class is included as well. The course is partly lecture/demonstration and partly hands on instruction. Topics include: How chords work in a song, How to get more out of sheet music by reading less of it, How to form the three main types of chords, How to handle different keys and time signatures, How to avoid “counting”, How to simplify over 12,000 complex chords. How to Play a Piano by Ear-Virtual

Learn one of music’s deepest mysteries: how to play songs without relying on music. A very practical presentation of music theory that includes predicting chord progressions, learning from recordings, and transposing-all expressed in everyday language. This is an ideal follow-up to the “Instant Piano” class and is open to anyone who has a basic understanding of chords on any instrument. Expand your musical horizons, and free yourself from sheet-music dependence, and be the life of the party! Prior experience with chords recommended.
