POLICY: In compliance with Illinois State law 820 ILCS 260/15, Spoon River College allows reasonable break time to an employee who needs to express milk for their infant child each time the employee has the need to express milk for one year after the child's birth.
SCOPE:
This policy applies to all Spoon River College employees who are nursing mothers.
DETAILS:
The break may run concurrently with any break time already provided to the employee.
Employee's compensation will not be reduced for time used for the purpose of expressing milk or nursing a baby.
Reasonable break time will be provided unless doing so would create an undue hardship as defined by it (J) of Section 2-102 of the Illinois Human Rights Act. (Source: P.A. 100-1003, eff,8-21-18). Supervisors are asked to contact human resources before denying an employee a paid break for expressing milk based on the undue hardship exclusion.
The College will make reasonable efforts to provide a room or other location, in close proximity to the work area, other than a toilet stall, where the employee can express their milk in privacy. Employees may contact Human Resources with questions regarding lactation spaces.
