SRC Response to COVID-19 (Coronavirus) | FAQs Section

Updated March 20, 2020

A Message from President Curt Oldfield

As we continue to deal with the impact of Coronavirus (COVID-19), I want to remind everyone that the health and safety of our students, faculty, staff, and guests remains our primary concern. This is an unprecedented situation for the country, state, communities, and our college.

  • Beginning Monday, March 23, 2020, Spoon River College will offer alternative instruction for the rest of the spring semester.  Faculty will contact students about individual course instructional plans to complete the spring semester.
  • Due to the shelter in place guidance from Governor J.B. Pritzker, Spoon River College will remain operational but closed to students and the public.

Please review our FAQs section for the latest updates.  This FAQs section will be time and date stamped, so check back often.

Spring Semester Class Status
Effective Monday, March 23, SRC will be moving spring semester classes online for the remainder of the term. Additional details regarding the format of classes will be sent to students via Canvas or student email. If you have not heard from your instructor, please send an email to and let us know. Please be sure to include your name, the name of the class you’re taking, and your instructor’s name.

College Operations
As much as possible, Spoon River College has put processes in place so that college faculty, staff and administrators can work at home. The vast majority of support services will be remote. Please email to connect with the College. You may also call our main line at (309) 647-4645 and leave a voicemail. Support services such as academic advising, success coaching, mental health counseling, tutoring, and others will be available virtually. Campus facilities will be locked and are unavailable for walk-in services.

Technology Assistance
SRC’s technology help desk can assist with any students who need help understanding how online classes work. You may contact them by sending an email to

Adult Education Programs
All Adult Education programs (High School Equivalency/GED and English as a Second Language) have been suspended until further notice.

Community Outreach
Personal enrichment and professional development classes are suspended until further notice.

College Events
For information about specific SRC events, please visit our Home Page.  We've created a "Canceled and Postponed Events" section to make that information easily accessible.

We regret to announce that our Spring 2020 Commencement ceremony has been canceled. We did not make this decision lightly. We recognize the disappointment our students and their families and friends will feel. We are disappointed also. Graduation is the most celebrated, exciting, and meaningful event on campus, and we look forward to it every year. However, in following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, we felt it was the responsible thing to do. Refunds will be issued for cap/gown purchases. Please make sure your current address is on file.

Information for Employees
Effective March 23, we are transitioning to remote work arrangements wherever possible until further notice. Faculty and staff are expected to follow their regular work schedule while working off campus. Employees should communicate with their supervisors on how to maintain a remote work schedule.
