Chili Supper Fundraiser - February 2011

Members of the Spoon River College campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity hosted a chili supper fundraiser on Friday, February 11 at the First Baptist Church in Canton. The group was raising funds to help offset the expenses of their upcoming trip to Biloxi, Mississippi during spring break, where they will participate in a build for Habitat International’s Collegiate Challenge.

Rich Markley, Fund-Raising Chair for the group, reported that more than $900 has been raised from the event.

“Although we had a goal of $1500, we are happy with the amount we raised,” Markley said. “We had to re-schedule the event due to the blizzard that occurred in February, so we were aware that attendance might be affected. We are extremely grateful for everyone who did attend the event and donated to this cause.”

The SRC campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity extends special thanks to the following businesses and individuals for their contributions to the fundraiser: Danielle Madston, Family Video, Hy-Vee, Kirlin’s, Kroger, Linn Lanes, Monicals, Susie Matthews, and the Sweet Shop.

The Collegiate Challenge gives student members the opportunity to visit a host affiliate, and spend one week in partnership with the local affiliate and community to work on a build. The students will stay at a youth camp while there.
