Co-Head Coach ​John Dyke

The 2017 baseball season will be Coach Dyke’s 43rd season as a baseball coach. Those 43 years include:

  • 10 years at East Peoria High School. 5 spent as Fresh/Soph Coach and 5 as Head Coach. His teams won 3 conference titles and 2 regional titles. He accumulated an overall record of 102-53.
  • 20 years as the volunteer assistant coach at Bradley University.
  • 20 summers with American Legion Baseball.

For eight years, he was the Illinoi Coaches Associations baseball chairman and the director of the annual East/West State All-Star game for graduating high school seniors. He was also named Man of the Year by the Illinois Coaches Association in 1992.

In his coaching career, he has had the privilege to coach the following major league players: Joe Girardi, Brian Shouse, Jim Thome, Bryan Rekar, Mike Grace, and Rob Scahill.

As a Spoon River graduate, Coach Dyke is looking forward to the opportunity to make the Snappers a strong, competitive team in the very tough M-WAC conference.

Co-Head Coach ​John Kurtz

The 2020 baseball season will be Coach Kurtz’s 4th season as a college baseball coach and 3rd season as a member of the Spoon River College staff. 

  • 1 yr at Eureka College 
  • 2 yr at Spoon River College (Assistant Coach) 
  • 1 yr at Spoon River College (Co-Head Coach) 
Graduated in 2016 from Eureka College with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. During his time at Eureka College Kurtz participated in both baseball and football, while serving as a 3 yr captain for the Eureka College baseball program.
During his time at Spoon River College he has helped produce 6 All-Region players while moving 10 players onto 4 year programs. Coach Kurtz looks forward to continuing to build on recent success and guide Spoon River College Baseball into the future.
