SRC COMMUNITY CHORUS PRESENTS HANDEL’S “MESSIAH” DECEMBER 8th
Over 60 singers and musicians will present Handel’s MESSIAH and an olio of traditional carols on Saturday, December 8 at the First Presbyterian Church on West Washington Street in Rushville. The concert will begin at 7:00 p.m. Tickets are available at the Spoon River College Rushville Center or at Rushville State Bank.
“This is by far the largest Spoon River College chorus group we’ve had since its inception in 2005 and we are looking forward to our first concert in Rushville,” said John Davis, chorus director. “This is an extremely challenging music program and I’m very pleased to be working with such a talented group of singers.”
The concert will be approximately one hour in length and audiences will be treated to what is commonly referred to as the Christmas portion of MESSIAH as well as beautiful arrangements of traditional carols such as Carol of The Bells, Christmas Day in the Morning and Silent Night.
Proceeds from the $5.00 ticket sales go to support SRC Scholarships for Rushville area students. Since 2005, the chorus has raised over $18,000 and established two Named Endowed Scholarships honoring the late Tom Greenwell and the late Harley Davis, two founding members of the chorus.
“We are only able to sell 150 tickets to this concert,” said Carol Davis, Vice President of Community Outreach at SRC. “The public is encouraged to purchase tickets soon. The concert is also being presented in Canton and all 460 of the available tickets for that concert are already sold out.”
