Over 75 singers and musicians will present Handel’s MESSIAH and an olio of traditional carols on Sunday, December 9 at the Evangelical Free Church on East Chestnut in Canton. The concert will begin at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available by calling (309) 647-6260 or from any chorus member.
“This is by far the largest Spoon River College chorus group we’ve had since its inception in 2005,” said John Davis, chorus director. “This is an extremely challenging music program and I’m very pleased to be working with such a talented group of singers.”
Accompanying the chorus is pianist/organist Gretchen Fuller. The chorus will also be accompanied by strings and brass.
The concert will be approximately 1 ½ hours in length and audiences will be treated to what is commonly referred to as the Christmas portion of MESSIAH as well as beautiful arrangements of traditional carols such as Carol of The Bells, Christmas Day in the Morning and Silent Night.
“We are only able to sell 460 tickets to this concert,” said Carol Davis, Vice President of Community Outreach at SRC. “The public is encouraged to purchase tickets very soon. With over 75 performers currently purchasing tickets for family and friends, we only have about 150 tickets remaining as of now.”
Proceeds from the ticket sales go to support SRC Scholarships. Since 2005, the chorus has raised over $18,000 and established two Named Endowed Scholarships honoring the late Tom Greenwell and the late Harley Davis, two founding members of the chorus.
Singing in the chorus are Jean Arndt, Agnes Bagwell, Andrea Barbknecht, Bruce Beal, Leesa Beecham, Dave Bishop, Loren Blackfelner, Carla Bobell, Rob Bobell, Barbi Brewer, Alice Brown, Debbie Burkhead, Bill Burkhead, Jackie Davis, Colin Davis, Carol Davis, Kevin Dearing, Ann Doolen, Richard Etter, Jeanine Gaumer, Susan Handy, John Harmon, Kathi Harmon, Rita Hatch, Bob Heppenstall, Sharon Hilton, Roger Howerter, Kevin Kessler, Tammy Kessler, Denise Kirgan, Leta Krock, Chad Leitschuh, Jim Marshall, Wendy Martin, Bethany Marvel, Gail Mathis, Marilyn Mathis, Greg Mathis, Sara Mathis, Susie McMillen, Jeannette McWhorter, Bob Miner, Chad Murphy, Glenn Nestlerode, Nina Nestlerode, Dave Norton, Natalie Orwig, Jo Potter Keen, Sue Reuschel, Ron Rupe, Becky Silva, Ron Smith, Jean Sprecher, John Stanko, Pat Stanko, Maureen Stein, Doris Taylor, Erin Triebold, Denise Vroman, Melissa Walker, Donna Weinstein, JoEllyn Welch, Michael Welch, Judith White, and Pamela Willison.
