Do you have an interest in genealogy? If so, our genealogy classes might be of interest to you. We encourage participants to sign up for all four Genealogy classes as each class will build upon each other! Classes will be held in Canton, Havana, Macomb, and Rushville. Each class is instructed by Dave Barbknecht, and is only $25!
Classes in the series include:
Setting up Your Research: Begin your family journey to research your roots! Learn ways to set up your family tree and catalog paper records. You’ll also have an opportunity to explore data entry programs such as “Family Tree Maker” and “Roots Magic 4”. Bring current family tree info!
US Census-How to Read: Do you know how to find Census information and if so, how to read it? In this class you’ll learn to read Census forms as well as look for key information on Census Records that unlock doors to the past and give you leads to explore! Discover ways in which your neighbors can help you through this process. Explore hands-on searching, printing, and ordering of Census Records.
Searching and Obtaining Records: In this class you’ll use the computer and internet to search for records that are available. Searches will be investigated on various websites. This class allows for open-lab time to explore and obtain documentation. Your instructor will be ready to offer assistance with questions or issues you have as you document your history!
Genealogy Projects: Have fun and get creative as you work on a variety of Genealogy projects! Print various types of family trees, discover grave stone rubbings, and organize and display your photographs. You will also be instructed on how to present your work to family members as well as be given tips on organizing family reunions!
