Susan Barnhart is a full-time Health Sciences faculty member with 13 years of teaching experience. As Title III Coordinator (50% time), Susan provides leadership for and directs all aspects of the Title III project. Specifically, she keeps the Internal Monitoring Team informed of progress and/or issues, supervises fiscal management of the project, serves as spokesperson for the Title III project both internally and to external agencies, and ensures that Department of Education policies, procedures, and schedules are carefully adhered to. She communicates the progress of the Title III project activity internally to administrators, faculty, and staff, and externally to the Title III Program Officer, supplying annual reports to the U.S. Dept. of Education. Additionally, she ensures through independent evaluation that internal formative evaluations are carried out according to Evaluation Plan and that a complete summative program evaluation is accomplished at the end of each year and at the end of the project.
Title III Activity Director / Transition Specialist

Jenny Briney serves as the Title III Activity Director/Transition Specialist full-time. Jenny has over 12 years of teaching experience, specifically working with at-risk students. She not only provides daily operational management of activity components, including the supervision of the Student Tracking Specialist and the Learning Specialist, but she also maintains primary responsibility for Component 1, "Redesigning the Matriculation Process" which includes development and testing of the assessment process, career/education planning process, and early alert/referral and degree auditing reporting. She maintains budgets, submits monthly, quarterly, and end of year progress reports to the Title III Coordinator, assists in all evaluation activities, and meets regularly with support staff and the Title III Coordinator to review activities and compliance issues. In addition, Jenny works with faculty and staff individually and in groups (according to a specific plan developed with direct faculty involvement) in modifying basic skills and gateway courses, and integrates new instructional strategies into the curricula. She also reviews course modifications and makes recommendations concerning effective strategies for teaching Basic Reading, Basic Writing, and Basic Math, and gateway courses based on extensive research and consultation with other colleges and leading authorities.
Title III Learning Specialist

Lisa Dennis serves at the Instructional Design Specialist and has over ten years of experience in the Instructional Design field. As Learning Specialist for the Title III grant (50% time), Lisa serves as a teaching/learning resource and facilitator for College faculty and staff involved in activity implementation. She supervises developing and testing components in the Innovative Teaching Learning Center, including equipment purchases and software purchases. She also assists faculty in identifying and evaluating instructional software and in designing, developing, and testing instructional applications in classrooms to improve instruction and provide opportunities for students to work at their own pace. Additionally, she develops training programs for faculty and staff that emphasize alternative teaching strategies that address the learning styles of underrepresented, under prepared and other at-risk students.

Dan is the full-time Title III Student Success Coach for the Canton campus. Before joining the Title III team Dan served as an adjunct Biology Instructor. Dan provides professional tutoring to all students in a variety of subject areas, and also coordinates academic skill-building workshops for groups of students. Dan also serves as an advocate for the students, and facilitates the connections between campus and community resources and at-risk students. He also supports the infusion of student development issues into the classroom by working with instructors and other members of the Title III team. He is responsible for helping identify and track at-risk students and their progress to help ensure their success in meeting their educational goals. In addition, Dan advises students helping students make career goals and helping students register for classes.

Sarah serves as the part-time Title III Student Success Coach for the Macomb campus. She has over 2 years experience working directly with students providing advising, testing and tutoring services. Like Dan, Sarah serves as an advocate for the students, and facilitates the connections between campus and community resources and at-risk students. She also supports the infusion of student development issues into the classroom by working with instructors and other members of the Title III team. She is responsible for helping identify and track at-risk students and their progress to help ensure their success in meeting their educational goals. Title III Assistant

Natalie Orwig serves as the Title III Assistant (50% time) and helps support the Title III Coordinator and other positions in the grant. Natalie, a graduate of Spoon River College, brings project organization and a customer service focus to the Title III grant. Her many years of work world experience and volunteerism in the public schools makes her a valued asset to the team. She works closely with the Title III Coordinator to document project implementation, maintain files and records, and prepare formative and summative reports, performance reports, and monthly and year-end budget reports. She also serves as receptionist in the Academic Success Center to receive visitors and incoming telephone calls.
