Spoon River College was founded in 1959 as Canton Community College and was reorganized in 1968 as Spoon River College.

Spoon River College serves 4,000 credit students per year in a 1,566 square miles area including portions of Fulton, McDonough, Mason, Schuyler and Knox counties.

  • Financial aid through grants, loans, student work study programs, and scholarships (more than 130 scholarships totaling nearly $50,000 are distributed by the Spoon River College Foundation each year).
     
  • Since 1998, more than 5000 individuals in the district have participated in customized job training offered by Spoon River College.
     
  • Over $3 million per year in financial aid brought into the district.
     
  • The Spoon River College Adult Education program saved Illinois tax payers more than 172,400 in public aid monies.
     
  • 330 former Adult Basic Education/General Education diploma students are now employed.
