Spoon River College was founded in 1959 as Canton Community College and was reorganized in 1968 as Spoon River College.
Spoon River College serves 4,000 credit students per year in a 1,566 square miles area including portions of Fulton, McDonough, Mason, Schuyler and Knox counties.

- The Spoon River College Adult Education program saved Illinois tax payers more than 172,400 in public aid monies.
