Volunteer Tutors Needed for GED Classes At Spoon River College

The Adult Education program at Spoon River College is seeking volunteers to help in the GED classrooms in Canton and in Havana.

Melissa Koke, advisor for the program, said she is looking for volunteer tutors to work with students, mainly one on one, to help improve their reading and math levels.

“We currently only have four tutors for both Canton and Havana,” said Koke. “Ideally, we would like to have two tutors for each classroom.”

According to Koke, the time commitment is approximately 1-2 hours per week.

In Havana, the GED classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30-11:30 a.m., and from 4:30-7:30 p.m. In Canton, classes meet on Monday and Wednesday from 9-noon, and from 5-8 p.m., and on Tuesday and Thursday from 9-noon.
